I first got into ”the system” in May of 2013, when I was unceremoniously left under the cover of night at the door of Bellingham Humane Society. I'm not real clear on life before then, but things were just starting to get interesting. After a short stay in the shelter, Northwest German Shepherd Rescue came along and ”pulled me” to see if they could find me a home. After a short stint with a foster family, I spent a couple of months at a home in Walla Walla, but things didn't work out there, so I ended up on a farm in Snohomish County where they do ”horse rescue.” I wasn't sure how I ended up there, but I got to run in the pastures and enjoyed the company of those big animals.
My last stop was with another Foster home in Green Lake, near Seattle. I got to hang out with other dogs who were learning ”proper behavior”, at least someone's concept of what's proper. One day, we went for a ride to Cle Elum, where I met Larry & Joyce, who own (or does it own them?) Sleeping Dog Wines outside of Benton City. we took a walk, played around a bit, and when they opened the door to their truck, I saw the nice bed in the back and hopped in! When they climbed in and started to drive away, I wondered what I had got myself into!
I'm still getting used to the flow of new people who come and visit the winery, but have found some safe places to escape to when it gets to be too much. The visitors seem to be happy to meet me and life is not too bad here. I get long walks in the vineyard, get to chase balls and play with the sprinkler water, and get along fine with the resident cats. Syrah and I get scolded when we play chase at 3 a.m., but that's just a good time to hang out! I think I'm going to like it here.
